Charles Richard Burkard, 85, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born Jan. 18, 1936 in Findlay, the son of the late John and Helen (Schlotterbeck) Burkard.
Richard attended Hillsboro High School and went on to be the owner and operator of B&B Plating, Highland Plating and Rotron Inc. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed gold mining in North Carolina and the Highland County area, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Burkard, whom he married March 8, 1958 in Covington, Ky.; three children, Nancy (Steve) Brethauer of Williamsburg, Elijah Burkard of Caldwell and Chloe (Christian Lopez) Burkard of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Richard (Brooke) Cox of Portsmouth and Cora Cox of Tennessee; five great-grandchildren, Evan Gilliland, Isiah Ballein, Miakiley Ballein, Emma Grace Cox and Brentley Cox; a brother, David (Glenna) Burkard of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Crouse; and four brothers, Karl Burkard, Bob Burkard, Neil Burkard and Gary Burkard.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
