Charles Henry Moore, 85, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 at his home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1935 in Leesburg, the son of the late Ted and Doris (Murphy) Moore.
He was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and served Him at the Mt. Olive Church of Christ for nine years as a young man; 32 years at the Hillsboro Church of Christ, where he and Janet helped establish a successful deaf ministry; and for the last nine years was active in the loving fellowship of the First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
He was educated at the Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus, where he attended up through the 11th grade, stopping due to his father’s terminal diagnosis of lung cancer. That occurrence required him to gain full-time employment in the workforce to help support the family.
He was a 32-year (retired) employee of the Hercules Trouser Company in Hillsboro, where he pressed the finished product. He was an avid sports fan and never missed a game of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, but most important to Charles was his family. He loved and cherished each one.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet (Tolle) Moore, whom he married June 26, 1965; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Arlene Tolle of New Vienna and Roy and Carol Butler of New Vienna; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Russell Henson; one nephew, Mark Henson; and his father and mother-in-law, Gleason and Blanche Tolle, who loved him like one of their own.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church with Dr. Derek Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the New Vienna IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the church. The Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro is serving the family.
