Catherine Weber Meade, 88, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Jan. 24, 2021.
She was born in Cincinnati to the late Robert and Fay Weber.
She graduated from Denison University and Tufts University. She was most proud of her career as a mother, where she was well-known for her constant supply of cookies and commitment as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. As her children grew, she was a co-owner of Caryl’s dress shop in Hillsboro and worked as an occupational therapist at Hopewell Center.
Catherine was a member and officer of Hillsboro Lions Club, AAUW, Highland County Historical Society, American Occupational Therapy Association, Retired Teachers Association, Hillsboro City School Board and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
She had many interests and hobbies, including quilting, knitting, sewing, reading and playing bridge. She was very musical, enjoying playing the piano, handbells and flute and singing in the church choir. She loved conversing with people, young and old.
Catherine was a longtime member of Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, and since moving to Columbia, S.C. in 2013, she worshipped at Windsor United Methodist Church. She was also an active and enthusiastic member of the Wilmington Area Emmaus (Ohio) and Emmaus of the Midlands (S.C.) communities.
Catherine is survived by her children, Douglas Meade (Betsy) of Columbia, S.C. and Ellen Steele (Al) of Tempe, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stuart Grimes (Jesse), Michael Grimes, Marybeth Grimes, Bradley Meade, Sarah Steele, Elizabeth Steele and Jennifer Steele; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Grimes.
She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Meade; and brother, Richard Weber.
Her family wants to thank the staff of Watercrest Senior Living Columbia and All Seasons Hospice for their care, encouragement and friendship during the past year.
