Carol Barrera, 84, of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020.
She was born in New Market on Dec. 10, 1935, the daughter of the late Ervin and Bernice (Wilson) Walker.
Besides her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Barrera, on June 14, 2006; and one brother, Ronald Walker.
Carol worked for the Ohio Bell Co. as a telephone operator in Hillsboro, and along with her husband, Eddie, owned and operated Barrera’s Market in New Market.
She attended the New Market Baptist Church.
Carol is survived by her two sons, Richard (Susi) Barrera of Hillsboro and Donnie (Jacquie) Barrera of Hillsboro; a daughter, Kay Barrera of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, Scott (Karen) Barrera, Alissa (Bill) Pegan, Amanda (Chad Randolph) Barrera, Kristi (Jesse) Dickens, Adam Roades, Richard (Sara) Furnish and Brian (Carrie) Furnish; 15 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Kitty Rhodes, of Hillsboro.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the New Market Baptist Cemetery.
