Carol Ann Sparks Chandler, 65, of Belleview, Fla., died Aug. 27, 2018 at her home after a brief battle with cancer.
Carol was born Jan. 13, 1953, in Portsmouth.
Carol was a 1971 graduate of Clay High School and a graduate of the Ohio University. She taught elementary school for 45 years, the majority of which was spent in kindergarten at Rosemount Primary School in Portsmouth. Carol also taught kindergarten from 2001-18 at South Ocala Elementary School in Ocala, Fla. She received numerous honors for her work in education. Carol was named a Marion County, Fla. Golden Apple Teacher in 2009, a Diamond Oil 2012 Top Teacher and in 2018 South Ocala honored her as a Master Teacher. She previously taught Children’s Church at Grace Baptist Church in Belleview, Fla., where she was a dedicated member of the congregation.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Chandler of Belleview, Fla.; two children, Brandy (John) Chandler Wyatt of Columbus, Ohio and Jeffrey (Danielle) Chandler of Belleview, Fla.; and many beloved friends and family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Sparks and Olive Lemaster Sparks; as well as an infant brother, Robert Craig Sparks.
Services will be held at the Erwin Dodson Allen Funeral Home in Minford, Ohio on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the service and from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Kids in Need Foundation, which provides school supplies to teachers and students across the United States.
