Bobbie Joe Elkins

Bobbie Joe Elkins, 92, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 19, 2023 at St. Catherine’s Manor with his family by his side after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born in Chesapeake on Sept. 9, 1930 to the late Lawrence and Helen (Benson) Elkins.

Bobbie worked with McKinley Kirk Farms in New Holland in his early years, living in New Holland area. From there, he began as a truck driver for Martings Mfg. in Washington C.H., hauling feeders to the Midwest. He finished his work career in refrigeration with Kold Flo Refrigeration in Columbus before going out on his own, forming E & E Refrigeration.

After retirement, he moved to Hillsboro, near Rocky Fork Lake, where he made many friends. He loved his gardening and lake activities. He was a past member of Valley Vista Golf Club and played in many leagues, winning one on his own. He was also a past member of Highland County Coon Hunters.

Bobbie is survived by his son, Bob Elkins Jr., and daughter, Luana Schneider; grandchildren, Tina (Chad) Conrad, Todd Schneider, Teri (Shane) Landrum, Rob Elkins and Brandon Elkins; great-grandchildren, Tyler Keller, Drew Howard, Kale Howard,Sydney Landrum (Nick McFarland), Shalyn Landrum, Tate Landrum, Tabby Landrum and Bella Elkins; great-great-grandchildren, Zoey Keller, Scotlyn Campbell, Bo McFarland, Saylor Howard and Adyn McFarland; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In addition to his mother and father, he was also preceded in death by the mother of his children and best friend, Margaret Elkins Jennings. Bobby was the last of his family siblings, being preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence (Junior) Elkins, Ralph Elkins and Jack Elkins; and his sisters, Pauline Elkins Freeman and Marjorie Elkins Younker.

His wishes of cremation are being followed. Family will welcome friends at a graveside memorial service Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Washington Cemetery, Washington C.H.
