Bert G. Allen, 91, of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born Jan. 3, 1927 in Cincinnati, the son of the late Bertrum Wilbur and Zola (Gardner) Allen.
On June 30, 1951 in Fayetteville, W.Va., he married Betty Jo Frazier Allen, who preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2017.
Bert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Naples, Italy during the war. He was a former Ohio state highway patrolman and was retired as a salesperson for BHA Piano & Organ.
Following his graduation from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Bert worked as a professional pianist with a jazz band and composed several songs. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Wilmington. He loved fishing and was an avid boater.
Surviving are his children, Pam (Steve) Roe of Wilmington, Mary Smith of Wilmington, Debbie (Jim) Leonard of Boynton Beach, Fla. and David (Lyn) Allen of Cayman Islands; grandchildren, Jeremy (Nikki) Roe, Jamie Roe, Desiree Leonard Jenkins, Chase Leonard, Justin (Katie) Smith, Courtney (Stephen) Morgan, Aaliyah Allen, Zerah Allen, Zendaya Allen, and Aaron Allen; and great-grandchildren, Sophie Roe, Denae Jenkins and Wayde Smith.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bert was preceded in death by his son, Mark Frazier Allen.
Services will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home in Wilmington on Thursday, May 10 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Josh Dixon and Everett Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the New Antioch Cemetery, where the Wilmington American Legion Memorial Squad will conduct full military honors.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
