A Senate committee could finalize revisions and vote on Senate Bill 5 Tuesday, March 1, as protests from union groups continue in Columbus.

Senate Bill 5, introduced by Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Springboro, seeks to end certain collective bargaining rights for more than 350,000 state workers, teachers, safety forces and other public employees.

"Union groups and Democrats were rallying what was expected to be thousands of protesters back to the Statehouse for the third week in a row in an effort to stop the bill," The Associated Press reported.

"Democrats and union leaders say no amount of revisions could fix the bill. They've offered no amendments," the AP said.

It was reported in a Feb. 26 news release from Ohio Gov. John Kasich's office, that state and local governments would have saved an estimated $1.3 billion in 2010 on health insurance and automatic pay increases if the limits imposed by the proposed Senate Bill 5 were in effect last year.

The governor's office cited a recent analysis by the state Office of Collective Bargaining.[[In-content Ad]]
