The members of the Highland County Republican Central Committee, residing in the City of Hillsboro have received a notice of resignation of Hillsboro City Auditor Patty S. Day, effective June 2, according to Highland County Republican Party Executive Chair Paulette Donley.

Pursuant to ORC Section 733.31 D2, not less than five nor more than 45 days after the vacancy, the county central committee, acting through its members who reside in the city shall meet for the purpose of making an appointment to fill the vacancy, Donley said.

As previously reported, Day was appointed to the position in November 2022, following the resignation of Highland County Auditor-elect Alex Butler. She had been a member of Hillsboro city council at the time of her appointment.

During the May 2 primary election, Day lost to Dawson Barreras, a Republican who served a brief stint as city treasurer earlier this year.
