Bye, Bye Birdie is one of the most captivating musical shows of our time.
It tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted
into the army. The singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, has a
pompadour and thick sideburns and speaks in a rugged voice. Albert Peterson, his agent, is a very pleasant mild mannered young man. Albert's faithful secretary, Rose Alvarez, keeps him and Birdie moving forward in the world. Rosie concocts one final national publicity plan before Conrad's induction.
Conrad will bid farewell to a typical all-American teenage girl, Kim MacAfee, of Sweet Apple, Ohio. He will bestow upon her one last kiss before he enlists. All of Sweet Apple is so excited about his arrival except for Hugo Peabody, the boy to which Kim has just been pinned.
The arrival of Conrad in Sweet Apple causes people of all ages to swoon. It is decided that Birdie will bestow the historical kiss on the Ed Sullivan Show. Meanwhile, the MacAfee household is completely upset by the visiting celebrity.
Birdie becomes bored and decides to go out on the town with the teenagers. The parents don't understand the new generation and become distraught with the way their children are acting. However, in the end, Rosie and Albert as well as Kim and Hugo are reunited and life becomes normal again for the residents of Sweet Apple, Ohio.
The principal characters are played by the following people: Conrad Birdie (Joe Barnhart), Rose Alvarez (Kara Young), Albert Peterson (Terry
Staten), Mrs. Peterson(Laura Lyle), Kim MacAfee(Emma Honnold), Mr.
MacAfee (Ryan Kline), Mrs. MacAfee (Sarah Balzer), Hugo Peabody (Dylan Rhonemus), and Randolph MacAfee (Trace Poore).
The show will be presented on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the McClain Auditorium. Cost of tickets is $5. They may be purchased at the door. Any questions may be directed to Loretta Flora at (937) 981-7731.
