Many roadways remain snow-covered

ODOT District 9 crews are continuing to work on roadways Saturday, however, routes throughout the area are snow-covered and very slushy. While routes on the state highway system are open and passable, they are completely snow covered in the northern region of the district - such as in Highland, Ross, Pike and Jackson counties - where they have they have received a much greater accumulation of snow. Traveling south, motorists will find routes to be snow covered as well as very slushy. Much of Adams, Brown, Scioto and Lawrence counties - especially along the Ohio River - continued receiving rain until very late Friday, which was left to combine with very wet snow on the pavement. As the temperature drops throughout the day there will be the threat of ice and black ice forming. In addition, wind gusts are expected to increase, which may cause blowing and drifting snow. ODOT's crews will continue to battle this storm; however, motorists need to exercise extreme caution and are advised to check their area for level emergencies posted by local law enforcement. Drivers need to allow additional travel time, reduce their speed significantly, and maintain a safe following distance behind other vehicles and snow plow trucks.
