History of hospital in Greenfield honored in lending library; new addition was brought to life by McClain teacher and students

As you drive into the main entrance parking lot on Mirabeau Street of Adena hospital in Greenfield, you may notice something new right there that harkens back to long ago days.
It’s a new lending library – take a book, leave a book – and it is made to look like the old Greenfield hospital building on South Street and on the site of the current healthcare establishment – the one that looked like a house from the front that so many folks may remember.
The idea for the lending library originated with Adena, McClain industrial arts teacher Chris Dodds said. Following the request, he said his graphics arts class collected pictures of about 60 different libraries to help direct their design, which they wanted to be unique. They ended up developing “a design idea that would pay homage to the history of the hospital's presence in Greenfield,” Dodds said.

Dodds and student Eli Douglas built the library over Dodds’ planning period at school and on a snow day. And the piece looks so realistic, Dodds said, because they worked with a company called Signs of Integrity who worked with historical photos of the old hospital to make a vinyl wrap for the lending library.
Earlier in May, Dodds and Douglas installed the finished piece on Mirabeau Street at the hospital’s main entrance.
