The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education has announced that Hillsboro High School Principal Rick Earley will be the district superintendent effective Aug. 1.
The Board of Education is in negotiations with Hillsboro High School Principal Rick Earley as a possible successor to Reiber.
"It's very humbling with all the responsibilities of the job," Earley said. "I look forward to the opportunity and I appreciate the board's
support."
"I think Rick was a great choice for the district," said Hillsboro school board member Sam Barnhouse. "Rick has done a great job as principal
and the board is confident that he will do a great job as superintendent."
As reported in The Highland County Press on Oct. 22, when current Superintendent Art Reiber submitted his letter of resignation, the board entered into negotiations with Earley as a possible successor.
Reiber's resignation is effective July 31, 2010. He served five years as district superintendent.
"It is impossible to put into words the appreciation that I have for our Board of Education and the support that has been given to me over these last five years," Reiber said. "I have worked with many school boards over the last 21 years as a superintendent and I can honestly say that Hillsboro's board is as good as any I have had."
Earley brings 26 years of professional academic service to the office. He has served as principal of the high school and the middle school, teacher, director of athletics, varsity basketball coach, varsity baseball coach and either head coach or assistant coach in track, soccer and football.
"We have a very dedicated staff and I look forward to working with them and continuing to strive for excellence on all levels," Earley said.
Earley said he will divide his time between his responsibilities as Hillsboro High School principal and working with Reiber through July 31.
The district has an internal employment posting for the high school principal's job until Jan. 29.
"If things work out, and Art and Rick get together on the administrative decisions, we may had a recommendation for our March meeting," Barnhouse said. "But there is a process we have to go through."
Rick Earley lives in Hillsboro with his wife, Gina, and their three children: Paige, Ryne and Whitney.
