Highland County unemployment rate climbs to 15.3 percent

Highland County has slipped in the rankings among the Ohio counties with the highest unemployment rates, but the jobless rate increased by more than a percent during the month of January. 
According to data released Wednesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, rates increased in 76 of the 88 counties and decreased in 12 counties.
Ottaway County was again ranked as the county with the highest rate at 18.9 percent. Pike County followed with a rate of 16.7 percent, Morgan County was at 16.1 percent; and Meigs County was at 15.8 percent.
Clinton County and Adams County were tied at 15.4 percent. 
Highland County was ranked with the seventh highest rate in the state at 15.3 percent.
The December rates had shown Highland County had the fourth highest unemployment rate in the state at 14 percent, with Ottawa County taking the top spot at 16.3 percent, Clinton County in second at 15 percent, and Pike County in third at 14.8 percent. 
In other area counties during the month of January, Brown County was at 13.7 percent; Ross County was at 11.7 percent; and Fayette County's rate was at 10.9 percent.
