Highland County jobless rate declines

While Ohio's unemployment rate rose to 10.9 percent in February, up from 10.8 percent in January, Highland County witnessed a slight decrease in its unemployment rate.

According to data released March 26 by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Highland County had an 18.6 unemployment rate for the month. Other area county unemployment rates included: Adams, 17.7; Brown, 15.1; Clermont, 11.7; Clinton, 19.0; Fayette, 13.5; Pike, 17.6; and Ross, 13.7.

Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 3,500 over the month, from 4,999,000 in January to 5,002,500 in February.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in February was 647,000, up from 641,000 in January. The number of unemployed has increased by 99,000 in the past 12 months from 548,000. The February unemployment rate for Ohio was up from 9.1 percent in February 2009.

The U.S. unemployment rate for February was 9.7 percent, unchanged from January.[[In-content Ad]]
