State Representative David Daniels has formally filed his petitions for candidacy for the 17th Senate District at the Ross County Board of Elections.  David is running to serve in the seat currently held by Senator John Carey (R-Wellston) who cannot run for re-election due to term limits.

Daniels commented, "I am thrilled to officially file my petitions to become a candidate for the Ohio Senate after months of working hard and talking to voters in all ten counties of the 17th District. I'm convinced that our state is in need of bold conservative leadership if we're going to successfully confront the major issues of our day. Unemployment has reached an unprecedented 11% statewide and it is even higher in many counties in southern Ohio. Our children are fleeing to states like Texas, Tennessee, and Florida for jobs and a lower tax burden.  It will take leaders who are willing to make tough decisions and who understand how to create jobs, and
make our state a more attractive place for businesses to locate."

According to his news release, after working hard to keep and create jobs in Ohio, Daniels has earned the respect and admiration of groups whose mission revolves around making Ohio a job-friendly state. Daniels has consistently received the highest marks from the NFIB and has a 100% voting record with both the Ohio Manufacturer's Associations and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.  Daniels has also been consistently honored by the United Conservatives of Ohio with the Watchdog
of the Treasury Award because of his commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Daniels continued, "We are at a pivotal point in Ohio's economy, the decisions we make in the next general assembly will be the deciding factor whether we will emerge from this economy as the powerhouse Ohio once was or whether we continue with the policies that have led us to where we are today. I am ready to support a pro-jobs, conservative agenda that will help return economic prosperity to southern Ohio.  I am the only candidate in this race that can run on my proven conservative credentials as a legislator."

Daniels grew up working on a 4th generation family farming operation.  In 1983 he ran for, and was elected to the Greenfield City Council. In 1987, he was elected mayor of Greenfield and in 1997 was elected Highland County Commissioner until 2003.  In 2003 David took his public service to Columbus and began his work as the 86th District State Representative in the Ohio House.

Once in the Ohio House, David played a key part in shaping a tax reform package that eliminated the corporate franchise tax, tangible personal property tax, and cut the income tax of every Ohioan by 21 percent.
