Congressman Taylor's bill incentivizing purchase of American-made cars introduced

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) introduced the United States Automobile Consumer Assistance and Relief Act (USA CAR Act), which would allow Americans to deduct auto loan interest from their taxes if they buy a vehicle that was made in America. This bill follows the introduction of its Senate companion, which was led by Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) on April 1, 2025.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, Republicans are taking tangible action to prioritize American workers and consumers. Lowering the cost of purchasing an American-made vehicle will lead to the increased sale of American-made cars, which in turn will bolster our Nation’s economy and put more money in the pockets of hard-working families,” said Congressman Taylor. “I’m proud to introduce Senator Moreno’s USA CAR Act in the House of Representatives to put American manufacturing, workers, businesses, and families first.”

“For decades, the American auto sector has been devastated by bad trade deals and bad leaders, who shipped American manufacturing jobs overseas while flooding our market with cheap foreign cars. Thanks to President Trump, we are finally ensuring every car sold in America is made in America and that working Americans can actually afford to buy a car in the first place. I’m proud to lead the way in the Senate,” said Senator Moreno.

The USA CAR Act will codify President Trump’s promises to promote U.S. manufacturing and create additional American jobs. This bill will allow for any interest paid or accrued on automobile loans during the taxable year to be deductible, effective with payments occurring on or after January 1, 2025. Eligible vehicles include those that underwent final assembly in the United States.

By promoting the purchase of American-made vehicles, the USA CAR Act is aimed at bringing well-paying manufacturing jobs back to the United States, making automobiles more affordable for American consumers, and shielding American supply chains from being dependent on foreign adversaries.
