Commissioners finalized preparations for this week's visit by Ohio first lady Frances Strickland, while focusing on a number of other pending issues at their Wednesday board meeting.
Strickland, as first reported at www.highlandcountypress.com, is scheduled to be in Highland County from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 for a tour of Rocky Fork State Park. Strickland is to meet with Highland County commissioners and other public and private officials for a tour of a proposed development site at the lake.
Strickland's visit is a follow-up to county commissioners' requests to the state of Ohio for consideration of private development at the lake, adjacent to Rocky Fork Golf Course.
Economic development director Dan Cowdrey, Highland County Chamber of Commerce director Katy Farber, and Ohio State University extension agents
Rose Fisher Merkowitz, Dr. Greg Davis, and John Grimes will also be discussing economic development with the first lady.

Greenfield sidewalk
bid approved
Also on Wednesday, following a brief executive session on personnel, county commissioners Gary Heaton, Tom Horst and Shane Wilkin approved a recommendation from Mike McCarty of McCarty Associates to accept a low bid of $14,989.12 from Hunley Bobcat Services, LLC, of Mount Orab for the LaFayette Street sidewalk paving project in Greenfield.
Greenfield interim city manager Harvey Everhart and grant writer Peg Beekman attended the portion of the commissioners' meeting devoted to the project.
Joe Hunley said he could begin the project as early as next week, weather permitting. He expected it to be completed in two weeks as long as the weather did not interfere.
