Biden issues statement on death row commutations

www.whitehouse.gov

I’ve dedicated my career to reducing violent crime and ensuring a fair and effective justice system.

Today, I am commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 individuals on federal death row to life sentences without the possibility of parole. These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my Administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder.

Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss.

But guided by my conscience and my experience as a public defender, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, vice president, and now president, I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level. In good conscience, I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that I halted.

If any legal citizen can use deadly force against a violent suspect while in the act (rape, agg robbery, agg burglary, or most forms of attempted homicides) why can't the State execute a convicted capital criminal after a fair trial and Lord knows how many appeals?
Is it fair to say that progressives are soft on criminals and soft on crime? I have evidence to say that they are.

There is no rational thought in Biden's statements today that should not have applied in 2020 when he took office. Why not commute the sentences on Day One in office if, indeed, that was the right thing to do? Anyone with a brain knows that answer: Pure politics. Letting convicted murderers off while running for re-election was bad. Letting them off on your way out the door, well, who really cares about the victims and their families anyway? Victims only matter when you can capitalize on them for political reasons. Biden/Harris will go down as the worst U.S. administration in history.

Did the democrat administration ask for input from the victims' families? I bet no. Just willy nilly, feel good, commutations for convicted killers. No reasons, no explanations. An Ohio correction officer was killed today by an inmate on Christmas. Will the inmate get a death sentence? I'm guessing no. Democrats have set a precedence.
