3 Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education members sworn in for upcoming terms

Three members of the Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education took their respective oaths of office for another four-year term during the board’s Monday, Dec. 15 meeting.
Board members Larry Lyons, Beverly Rhoads and Jerry Walker were sworn in by district treasurer Ben Teeters. All three were elected this past November, as they ran unopposed.
Rhoads was also a recent honoree at the Great Oaks Board of Directors’ Dec. 4 meeting, as she received a Heritage Oaks Award. Rhoads and Lockland board member Terry Gibson had the two longest tenures, as they were both recognized for serving six terms on the Great Oaks board.
The rest of Monday morning’s meeting lasted less than half an hour, as district superintendent Tim Davis said “dealing with the weather and cancellations” was the main focus lately.
During the meeting, it was noted the board will reorganize Jan. 5 for the 2026 calendar year. The board voted to approve holding their tax budget hearing Jan. 5 at 8:45 a.m., organizational meeting at 8:50 a.m. and regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m. at the central office.
In a separate motion, board president Bill Myers was appointed to serve as president pro tempore for the organizational meeting, at which time the board will select its president for 2026.
Also approved for the upcoming new year was the district’s membership in the Ohio School Boards Association for 2026, at a total cost of $8,186.
In other action:
• The board approved the financial reports as presented. Teeters reported a cash balance of $11,952,108.16 for November, down from $12,915,341.89 in November 2024, with monthly expenses of $2,733,831.02.
• The board approved the following individuals for the contracts and positions indicated: classified — paraprofessionals Gary Breeden (step 5, retroactive to Dec. 8) and Aleah Darbyshire (with associate’s, step 0, retroactive to Dec. 8); volunteers — Bryson Simmons (basketball coach) and Darrell Wilson (all schools); sub certified — Madison Flint, Douglas Saunders and Noah Sweetman; mentor — Sarah Albert; and sub classified — Bridgette Storer (van driver).
• The board approved a change of status for Bailey Nichols, from substitute bus driver to full-time bus driver, effective Jan. 5.
• The board approved Miley Swader as an early graduate.
