Mustangs drop SHAC game to Eastern on homecoming; fall to Minford in OT

This past Friday and Saturday, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs celebrated their homecoming weekend, where on Friday night they lost to the Eastern Warriors in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference contest, then Saturday they lost in an overtime battle against the Minford Falcons.
On homecoming night against Eastern, where Elam Faust was named king and Joslyn Rockey was crowned queen, the Mustangs lost by a 54-36 score.
Friday’s game saw the Mustangs and Warriors each scored 13 points in the first quarter, but an 11-5 second frame by Eastern put the Warriors ahead by a 24-18 at halftime.
Eastern took control of the game with a 19-8 third quarter, putting the Warriors’ lead at 43-26 after three frames. The fourth quarter saw EHS score 11 points and the Mustangs add 10 to their final total as EHS won by 18 points.
The Mustangs were led in scoring by Denver Clinton with 11 points, as he also collected seven rebounds. Clinton made four two-point baskets, and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Scoring eight points each were Faust and Tanner Roberts. Faust finished with two 3-pointers, one two-point bucket and three rebounds. Roberts collected seven rebounds, one assist and seven blocks. Roberts made one two-point basket,, and he was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Also for the Mustangs, Quin Wells finished with four points with two made baskets, Aiden Bene ended the game with three points (a 3-pointer) and Linkin Barnett scored two points with one rebound and one assist. LCHS also had Trevor Niehaus with two rebounds, Harley Lewis with one assist, and Austin Manning also had an assist.
Team totals for the Mustangs were 20 rebounds (six offensive), four assists, seven blocks and they committed eight turnovers. LCHS finished with nine two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they were 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Eastern was led in scoring by Braxton Vance with 17 points, as he made two 3-pointers, plus he added four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Matthew Dick followed with 12 points, five rebounds, one assist and three blocks.
The Warriors also saw Carter Cluxton with seven points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Chase Pinkerton ended the game with five points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Also with five points was Sam Ramer, as he also had three rebounds, one assist and one block. Kayne Dotson totaled four points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Scoring two points each were Henry Foebar and Jayce Jennings. Foebar also had two rebounds and one assist. EHS had 19 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and they were 1-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Eastern’s totals included 33 rebounds (16 offensive), 14 assists, eight steals and five blocks, plus EHS had eight turnovers.

On Saturday, the Mustangs battled into overtime, where they lost to Minford by a 54-46 score in a contest at LCHS.
In the non-conference game, the Mustangs won the first frame at 14-11, and after a 10-6 second quarter where LCHS held the advantage, the home team held a 24-17 halftime lead over the Falcons.
Minford gained the upper hand in the third at 12-6, and in the fourth quarter the score ended with a tie of 42 as MHS scored 13 points and LCHS added 12 points to their total scoring.
In the fourth quarter, Minford outscored Lynchburg-Clay at 12-4 for the eight-point win.
The Mustangs were led by Denver Clinton with 14 points, four rebounds and one steal. Quin Wells finished the evening with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Linkin Barnett totaled seven points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Also scoring seven points was Elam Faust as he also collected two rebounds and three steals. Tanner Roberts finished with six points, four rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Harley Lewis finished with two points, six rebounds, two assists and one block. Caden Boone totaled one rebound and one assist.
Team totals for the Mustangs included 27 rebounds (five offensive), nine assists, six steals and four blocks, plus they committed 13 turnovers. LCHS made 14 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers (Barnett, Faust, Wells), and they were 9-of-12 from the free-throw line.
The Mustangs now stand at 1-2 overall and they are 0-1 in the SHAC Division I standings.
