Lois Newman

Lois Newman, 93, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023. 

Lois was born May 16, 1930 in Belfast, the daughter of the late DeWitt H. and Elma Loreene (Gall) Frazer. 

Lois grew up in the Belfast community and graduated from Belfast High School. She attended beauty college and owned and operated Lois Beauty Shop in Hillsboro for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Belfast United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau Women's Committee and Hillsboro Chapter 441 Order Eastern Star. 

Lois is survived by two loving children, Jane L. (Toby) Turner and David F. Newman, both of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Gulley and Matthew (Vanessa) Turner; four great-grandchildren, Trenton Gulley, Allison Gulley, Rhonda Turner and Zachariah Turner; one brother, James D. (Joyce) Frazer of Hillsboro; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald A. Newman, on Aug. 16, 2010; and one brother, William H. Frazer. 

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. 

Pastor John Waugh will officiate, with burial to follow in the Prospect Cemetery. 

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday the funeral home.
