John Worley Johnson
John Worley Johnson, 95, of Chillicothe, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Highland County, the son of Clyde and Ada (Lyle) Johnson.
He was a 1945 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He retired from the Chillicothe Gazette after more than 30 years of employment and was formerly employed at Greenfield Printing and Publishing. After retirement, he became an avid golfer and enjoyed Ohio University football.
He is survived by one daughter, Janet (Michael) Rooks Chapman of Greenfield; two sons, David (Sharon) Michael of Jamestown, R.I. and Thomas Alan (Jeanine) Johnson of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Rooks Wenker, Kristen Rooks Cross, Michael Chapman, Bryan Michael, Danielle Michael (Jeff) Matthews, Amanda Michael, Erin Michael, Jeff Michael, Eric (Helen) Michael, Ryan (Stacy) Michael, Olivia Johnson and Abbey Johnson (Tyler) Waddle; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (Cherry) Michael Johnson, on Jan. 28, 2015; son, Edward Earl Michael; son-in-law, Larry Chapman; brother, Harry Johnson; sister, Phyllis (Johnson) Washburn; and both parents.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 26 at 1 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield beginning with a veterans appreciation service. Burial will follow in the Twin Township Cemetery in Bourneville, with military rites provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601.
