Hillsboro woman gets community control in drug trafficking case

A Hillsboro woman was sentenced to community control this week after pleading guilty to a fifth-degree felony count of trafficking in drugs.

Tiffany McKenzie, 42, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in June on charges of trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drugs, a first-degree misdemeanor. The indictment, which was the result of a Highland County Task Force investigation, was initially sealed.

The indictment alleged that on or about Nov. 8, 2022, McKenzie “did knowingly sell or offer to sell buprenorphine.” According to a bill of particulars, McKenzie sold four buprenorphine pills to a confidential informant along a Hillsboro road.

She pleaded guilty to the felony charge in July, with the misdemeanor charge dismissed, according to court records.

On Aug. 29, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced McKenzie to three years of community control and ordered her to successfully complete a recommended treatment program. She was also ordered to pay $80 in restitution to the Highland County Task Force, jointly and severally with a co-defendant, whose case is still pending.
