Hillsboro volleyball starts season at 1-1 overall

Playing two games at the 2023 Spike & Dig Tournament on Saturday, the Hillsboro Lady Indians volleyball team went 1-1 in the tournament, finishing runners-up in the event.

In the first game, Hillsboro defeated Lynchburg-Clay in two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-9.

Hillsboro totaled 20 kills in the event, with freshman Tylee Davis leading with seven kills, while senior Cora Akers totaled six kills and junior Camryn Spruell had four kills.

Junior Addison Huff of HHS led the way with two aces, and freshman Ryan Wagoner had one ace. Sophomore Allie Roush finished with one block for Hillsboro.

The digs leader for the Lady Indians was Akers with 11, while senior Halle Reveal finished with nine.

Sophomore Kayla Seeling totaled nine assists, while Huff finished with eight assists.

In the championship game, HHS lost to McClain, 25-16 and 25-22.

The Lady Indians were led in kills by Roush with four and Davis with three. Akers led HHS with one ace, and having one block was Roush.

Also for the Lady Indians, Wagoner had eight digs to lead the way, while Reveal finished with seven digs.

Other digs leaders for HHS were Scarlett Perkins (six), Davis (six), Seeling (three), Huff (three) and Roush (two).

Leading in assists for HHS was Seeling with five.

Next for the Lady Indians is a non-conference game on Saturday, Aug. 26 at home vs. the Fayetteville Lady Rockets, starting at 11 a.m.
