Hillsboro Post 129 goes 2-2 at Troy Tournament

In four games played at the annual Troy Tournament, the Hillsboro Post 129 team played four games in two days, falling twice on Friday and winning both games on Saturday (June 10) for a 2-2 record at Troy.

The two wins and two losses leave Hillsboro Post 129 with an overall record of 3-5 through eight games played this season.

On Friday in their first game of the tournament, the Post 129 team lost to Piqua Post 184 by a 9-6 score in six innings.

Hillsboro scored a run in the top of the second, then added three runs in the third and tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth.

Piqua Post 184 had a five-run second inning, one run in the fourth and a three-run six inning.

Post 129 finished the game with four hits and four errors. Piqua Post 184 had 12 hits and committed four errors.

Easton Daulton finished 1-for-4 with a run scored, and his teammate, Caleb Rothwell, finished with a run and one walk. Brady Lung scored a run for Hillsboro Post 129, while Nick Reed also scored a run and drew three walks.

Hunter Barnhill ended the game with two RBI, and Landry Hattan was 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI. Isaac Eyre finished 1-or-3 with a run, and Ben Matthews was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Reed was charged with the loss with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Lung pitched 0.2 innings with one strikeout.

For their second game on Friday, June 2, Hillsboro Post 129 lost to Pickerington, 8-7 in six innings. Pickerington scored six of their runs in the top of the first inning, and added two more in the top of the third. Hillsboro scored six runs in the bottom of the third and one run in the bottom of the sixth.

Pickerington totaled six hits and two errors, while Post 129 Hillsboro had six hits and no errors.

Daulton collected two runs, one RBI, one walk and was hit by a pitch. Rothwell had an RBI and was hit by a pitch.

Lung finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI, and teammate Reed went 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI, a walk, a double and was hit by a pitch. Hattan for Post 129 finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Hunter Barnhill was 1-for-3 with a run, Wyatt Willey went 1-for-1 with a run, and Matthews scored a run and forced three walks.

Rothwell was charged with the loss, pitching six innings and striking out eight batters.

On Saturday, June 10 Hillsboro Post 129 defeated Utica, 10-3 in six innings. The win saw Hillsboro total 15 hits and no errors. Utica totaled six hits and had two errors.

Post 129 scored one run in the bottom of the first and added a run in the bottom of the third. In the fourth, Hillsboro scored four runs, then added one run in the fifth and three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Utica scored three runs in the top of the fourth.

Rothwell led Post 129 at 4-for-5 with a double, one run and one RBI. Daulton was 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles and two RBI.

Lung finished 3-for-4 with one run, one RBI and was hit by a pitch. Austin Barnhill finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and two steals.

Hunter Burns was 1-for-5 with a triple, one run and two RBI. Reed finished 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI and two walks.

Willey was 1-for-4 with two runs and a steal, while Matthews collected a hit by pitch and a steal.

Braydon Kisling was the winning pitcher, tossing six innings, allowing three earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Hillsboro’s second game on Saturday, June 10 saw them win by a 10-8 score in six innings over the Kings Knights Post 171 JR team. Hillsboro scored one run in the second and fourth innings, then added eight runs in the sixth inning. 

Kings Knights Post 171 JR scored one run in the bottom of the first, four runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth inning.

Post 129 finished with seven hits and four errors. Post 171 JR had five hits and five errors.

Daulton went 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI, and Rothwell was 1-for-3 with a run, walk and seal.

Lung finished 1-for-2 with a double, two runs a walk and a steal. Burns collected a run, walk and a steal.

Eyre scored a run for Post 129, and Hattan in the win finished 1-for-2 with a run and RBI. Austin Barnhill finished the win at 1-for-1 with a run, one RBI and two walks. Matthews was 1-for-3 with a run and a steal.

Eyre pitched 3.1 innings, allowing three earned run on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.

Lung threw 0.2 innings, totaling one walk and one strikeout. Daulton pitched two innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit and five walks, with four strikeouts.
