Hillsboro Post 129 competes in home wooden bat tournament
The Hillsboro Post 129 baseball team hosted their annual wooden bat tournament over the weekend (June 16-18) at Richard Shaffer Park, finishing 1-3 in the three-day event.
On day one of the event (June 16), Hillsboro Post 129 lost to the Post 142 Shockers, 4-0, where Hillsboro was listed as the away team in the game.
The Shockers totaled eight hits, one error and scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. From there, Post 142 added two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth inning.
Post 129 totaled one hit in the game, off the bat of Hunter Burns, who was 1-for-2 with a walk. Hunter Barnhill was hit by a pitch to reach first base.
Nick Reed pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and one walk with a strikeout.
The following day (June 17), Hillsboro Post 129 defeated Greenville Post 140, 7-3, as Hillsboro totaled six hits and committed two errors. Greenville had three hits and four errors.
Post 129 scored five runs in the bottom of the third, then added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. In the top of the sixth, Post 140 scored all three of their runs.
Caleb Rothwell finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Reed was 2-for-2 with a double, one run and a walk.
Brady Lung finished 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Tyler Tomera-Hiller went 1-for-3.
Easton Daulton collected a run and RBI, while teammate Burns also had an RBI and was hit by a pitch.
Landry Hattan finished with an RBI, one walk and a sacrifice fly. Toby Huff ended his day with two runs, and he forced two walks. Austin Barnhill finished with a run scored, a walk and a steal.
On the mound, Brayden Kisling was the winning pitcher, tossing five innings. He allowed no runs on one hit and five walks. Kisling struck out 10 batters.
In the second game on Saturday (June 17), Post 129 lost to Findlay Post 3 by a 1-0 score.
Post 3 scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as they finished with five hits and two errors. Hillsboro had one hit and two errors.
Burns was 1-for-3, as his hit for Post 129 was a double.
Tyler Sammons had the tough-luck loss. He allowed no earned runs on five hits and one walk. Sammons finished with 12 strikeouts.
On Sunday, June 18, Hillsboro Post 129 lost to Springfield, 10-2. Springfield scored one run in the top of the fourth and nine runs in the top of the sixth inning. Springfield also finished with 14 hits and one error.
Hillsboro scored one run in the fourth and another run in the seventh inning.
Austin Barnhill went 1-for-3 with a walk, and teammate Rothwell was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Daulton forced a walk and was hit by a pitch. Burns finished 1-for-1 with two RBI, a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Lung went 1-for-3, while Huff had two walks and was hit by a pitch. Hunter Barnhill finished 1-for-3, and Tomera-Hiller scored a run.
After the four weekend games, Hillsboro Post 129 stands at 4-8 overall this summer.
