Hillsboro Post 129 baseball swept in home DH against Chillicothe Post 757

The Hillsboro Post 129 baseball team hosted a doubleheader on Monday, July 10 against the Chillicothe 757 Colts in American Legion action, where Hillsboro dropped both games of the twin bill.

In the first game, the host Hillsboro squad lost by a 2-1 score as Post 757 scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth at Shaffer Park. Hillsboro did their best in the final inning, scoring one run, as their last-inning rally was short.

Hillsboro totaled six hits in the loss, with Brady Lung going 2-for-3, while four other players each had one hit. Easton Daulton was 1-for-3, and teammate Hunter Burns was also 1-for-3 with a double and a steal.

Landry Hattan went 1-for-2 with the lone RBI in the seventh inning, plus he had a walk. Ben Matthews finished 1-for-3, and Haydon Hice scored a run and walked once.

Hice had the tough luck loss for Post 129 Hillsboro. He pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks, while also collecting three strikeouts.

Post 757 finished with five hits and one error.

In the second game, Post 129 lost to Chillicothe, 14-4 in six innings.

Hillsboro finished with four hits and committed five errors. Post 757 had 12 hits and four errors.

For Post 129, Lung was 2-for-3 with two runs to lead Hillsboro at the plate.

Collin Rothwell went 1-for-2 with a walk, and Matthews finished 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a double.

Also for Hillsboro, Ben Miller collected an RBI and a walk, Burns scored a run, Hunter Barnhill walked twice and Brandon Ludwick collected an RBI and walked once.

Austin Barnhill had the loss on the mound.

Hillsboro Post 129 now stands at 4-16 overall for the 2023 summer season.
