Hillsboro Garden Club
The Hillsboro Garden Club held its November 2025 meeting at the Highland County Historical Museum. The museum has been decorated for the upcoming holidays by local groups and individuals. It is beautiful and worth a visit or three.
The roll call question was "how are you using plants and flowers in your holiday decor?" The club has many creative minds addressing this very question.
The gardening tip was "knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."
In the treasurer's absence, President Lynn Luman gave the treasurer's report. Lynn also asked the members to suggest local sponsors for the Ohio Association of Garen Club state convention.
The first speaker of the evening was Nicole Friend who spoke on the impact we are having on the natural world and the importance of native plants. Nicole has worked with garden club member Nancy Sonner to improve the landscaping around the Leesburg Branch Library and the Diary Barn.
Highland House director Vicki Knauff introduced the evening's second speaker, Kathy Levo, who gave an interesting history of the Highland House building and the decorated Christmas trees.
The hostesses for the evening were Andrea Schneider and Judith Stivender. The members then toured the building and visited the Merry Mercantile gift shop.
After the club holds its Christmas party at the Ponderosa in December, the next meeting will be March 24, 2026 at Floral Hall. All gardeners are welcome to join us. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
