Ross County Sheriff's Office-
Ross County Sheriff Lavender reports that at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday, two of his patrol deputies observed a Dodge pick-up truck commit a traffic offense on South Paint Street in Chillicothe.

Deputies followed the vehicle into a gas station. The deputies approached the vehicle and the female driver took off in a reckless manner, nearly striking parked cars and pedestrians at the gas station.

Deputies pursued the vehicle south on Paint Street to Cooks Hill Road, where it stopped at a residence, and the female driver fled on foot into the residence.

Deputies received assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Chillicothe Police Department.

Megan Schumaker, 32, was apprehended inside the residence. She was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including possession of controlled substances, failure to comply and tampering with evidence, as well several misdemeanors.

Deputies recovered prescription painkillers, suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and evidence of drug trafficking that Schumaker had thrown from the vehicle.

The U.S. 23 Major Crimes Task Force was on scene to process the evidence and will be filing further charges as lab results are returned.

Sheriff Lavender wants to thank the State Highway Patrol, the Chillicothe Police Department and the U.S. 23 Task Force for their assistance.
