Wenstrup discusses budget, health care at SSU town-hall meeting
Second District Rep. Brad Wenstrup attended a town-hall meeting Monday at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, with approximately 30 people in attendance.
Congressman Wenstrup started the event with a presentation on the House budget plan that was recently passed and shared his disappointment that the president had not yet presented his budget that was due by law in February.
Questions from the audience followed and included questions by taxpayers upset at the news of the many federal employees who have been found delinquent in their own taxes.
Area citizens also had questions and comments both opposing and supporting the affordable health care act.

When asked for specific solutions to replace the affordable care act, Wenstrup mentioned his support for health savings accounts and options to make health insurance more portable as well as tort reform and introducing competition in the insurance industry by opening up competition across state lines, much like is done with auto insurance.
One Shawnee State student asked the congressman's thoughts on higher education funding. The congressman praised Shawnee State and other colleges in the district for working with students so that they have a plan and ability to pay their student loans after graduation.
Wenstrup also spoke of his support for skills training and community colleges.
