Two arrested on drug charges after traffic stop
On May 14 at approximately 10:23 p.m., a Hillsboro police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of North High Street. The male driver was found to be driving under suspension, and the female passenger attempted to exit the vehicle but was ordered to stay in the vehicle by the officer.
During the traffic stop, the officer observed the male driver moving around in the vehicle, and it was found that the male driver gave the female passenger some items to conceal from the police. The female passenger concealed two items on her person, and under her clothing hid what was suspected to be illegal narcotics. The items were recovered, suspected of being a substantial amount of heroin and prescription pills. The male was found to be in possession of approximately $5,400 in cash monies. The suspected heroin, cash money and other items used for drug paraphernalia were seized by the Hillsboro Police Department.

Kyle Ross, 22, of Hillsboro was arrested for driving on a suspended driver's license, a misdemeanor of the first degree; trafficking in drugs, a felony of the third degree; and tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree.
Savahanna Mauk, 19, of Hillsboro, was arrested for tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree; and possession of illegal drugs, a felony of the fourth degree.
Both Ross and Mauk were transported to the Highland County Justice Center and were arraigned before the Honorable David McKenna in Hillsboro Municipal Court on May 15 at 8 a.m. Additional charges are possible for both subjects pending further investigation by the Hillsboro Police Department.
