Tracy Aranyos sworn in as new council member
The members in the city of Hillsboro of the Highland County Democratic Executive and Central Committee have announced the selection of Tracy Aranyos as the new Ward 3 representative on Hillsboro City Council to replace Mary Brown Turner.
The committee members met Monday, Aug. 19. Dinah Phillips, chairperson, indicated that the committee did not want to make a hasty decision when filling this position, and that they have taken their time and contacted all persons in Ward 3 they thought might be interested in serving on city council.
Aranyos, of 217 East Main Street, was selected by the committee following the interviewing process.
"Tracy has attended every council meeting but four in the last two years, and is knowledgeable about the current issues facing council," Phillips said. "She has no agenda or vendetta, and is willing to listen to her constituents when making her decisions, and will be a real asset on council."
Aranyos is a 16-year employee of Ferno-Washington and has served on various committees at the plant; as well as working 5 1/2 years at PAS Technologies.
She has already filed the necessary paperwork with the Board of Elections to be a write-in candidate in this November's election.
Aranyos will be sworn in later this week to begin serving the citizens of Hillsboro in Ward 3 as their council member.
"I have lived in the city of Hillsboro for 22 years. I also lived in Lynchburg three years prior to that," Aranyos said. "I am originally from Cincinnati and went to Anderson High School. I lived in the Beechmont Avenue area for most of my childhood. I moved to Hillsboro as a single mother to raise my only daughter in a small farming town so she could experience 4-H, raising animals and live in a small, close-knit community.
"I don't believe in rumors," Aranyos said. "I like to get all or as much of the facts for myself 'straight from the horse's mouth,' so to speak, before making an opinion. I will fight very hard for what I believe in! I am a very passionate person, but also open minded. If you make a good argument, I will support you.
"I believe in getting things done. That is why I would like to join the Hillsboro City Council and get an energetic group of people working together to get things moving in a positive direction for the city."
Aranyos accepted her oath of office during an Aug. 21 swearing-in ceremony conducted by the Hon. Judge David McKenna in Hillsboro Municipal Court.
