Speaker Rosenberger, OSU unveil Leadership Institute

On Wednesday, Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) and representatives from The Ohio State University unveiled details of the State of Ohio Leadership Institute (SOLI), which received funding in the recently passed state biennial budget.
In the era of term limits, SOLI will provide foundational knowledge to elected officials, ensuring that they are aware of some of the major challenges facing the state and how to better represent their constituents. The goal of SOLI will be to contribute institutional continuity across elected and appointed offices in order to equip officials with leadership training and knowledge, along with the skills necessary to best serve Ohioans.
“This program will provide an educational pathway for state and local officials to receive training that reinforces their understanding of government and the Ohioans we represent,” Speaker Rosenberger said. “Facilitated through the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, the institute continues Senator Glenn's mission and will give students access to their elected officials. Thank you to President Michael Drake, Dean Trevor Brown and Alex Fischer with the Columbus Partnership for seeing the value of this program and working with the legislature and governor to bring this institution to life.”
SOLI will be facilitated by The Ohio State University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs and will provide instruction and training to state and local officials on public affairs, public administration, the state budget process, communication with members and staff, decorum and ethics as well as information on research avenues for government entities.
“The Glenn College is proud to serve the state of Ohio in launching the State of Ohio Leadership Institute,” said Trevor Brown, Dean of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. “In the words of Sen. John Glenn, ‘our job is to inspire citizenship and develop leadership.’”
Through the state operating budget signed last week by Governor John Kasich, SOLI was appropriated $5 million in FY18. In addition to this funding, the John Glenn College of Public Affairs is in the process of securing additional partners to launch and sustain the institute.
