Southern Ohio Genealogical Society presents 'Drew Hastings, We Know Who You Are'

The Southern Ohio Genealogical Society will present a special fundraising program entitled "Drew Hastings, We Know Who You Are" on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Hi-TEC Center on North High Street in Hillsboro.

According to society president Dwight Crum, information regarding Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings and his family genealogy will be presented.

"The event, which reveals information on the life of Drew and his family, is also being utilized as a fundraising effort for the genealogical society," Crum said. "Income will be used to further genealogy classes, programs, and improvements for the genealogical library located at Southern States Community College in Hillsboro.

"The television show sponsored by Ancestry.Com has raised awareness among Americans about research methods, interesting finds and the thrill of locating information regarding many families roots. The local genealogical society is dedicated to building their library sources and conducting beginner and advanced genealogy classes for those wanting to do Highland County and broader research on a family line," Crum said.

Those interested in attending the Sept. 12 program need to take special note of the meeting location, which will be held at the Hi-TEC Center, 1575 N. High St. in Hillsboro. Southern Ohio Genealogical Society members may attend the event free of charge. Non-members will be asked to pay a $5 admission fee at the door.

"You won’t want to miss this revealing and fun genealogical program regarding the life and family history of Drew," Crum said. "The local genealogical society has been working on the research for over a year. Research has taken the researchers from early America in the northeastern part of the U.S., to Belmont County, Ohio, Morocco, England, and many locations in the U.S., including Ohio, California, and Florida.

"Personal interviews with Drew, his friends, parents, and one of his high school teachers, who will be assisting with the presentation, has added much to the family history. The Power Point presentation also includes many generational pictures gathered through numerous sources."

The program will be followed by a seven-minute trailer, “The Battles of the Hasting.” Several presentations will be made, including a personal digital and hard copy of the findings on Hastings and his family.

Following the program, Hastings will take questions from attendees.

The community is invited for an informative and entertaining evening of genealogical research, Crum said.
