Press Release-
South Central Power awarded the Lancaster Port Authority two $15,000 grants in support of economic development efforts. The grants will move two sites closer to certification by the State of Ohio.

One of the sites is part of the Rock Mill Industrial Park, and the other is a 125-acre site located on Whiley Road near Rock Mill. South Central Power provides electric service to both sites.

On the Rock Mill site, the grant will be used for an archeological and culture report as well as drone photography. The grant will be used for a Phase 1 environmental site assessment, a geotechnical study and a wetlands delineation report at the Whiley Road site.

“Conducting these studies will help our efforts to achieve SiteOhio certification by JobsOhio,” said Mike Pettit, Lancaster Economic director and chairman of the Lancaster Port Authority. “Site certification is an effective marketing tool that provides a competitive advantage in attracting new businesses to our area, as well as the jobs and capital investment that accompany them.”

The SiteOhio certification indicates a site is ready for immediate development day one, guaranteeing that all utilities are on site with adequate capacities and that due diligence studies have been completed. It also ensures the site is free of incompatible uses, with no limitations or insurance liability based on surrounding property.

“South Central Power has a history of supporting economic development in the communities we serve,” said Rick Lemonds, president and CEO. “The cooperative is pleased to provide funding that will help spur efforts to attract businesses to the Lancaster area. Achieving site certification will better position both sites to attract and retain businesses in Fairfield County.”

South Central Power is Ohio’s largest electric cooperative serving approximately 118,000 homes, farms, commercial businesses and industrial firms in 24 counties. With headquarters in Lancaster, it also operates offices in Hillsboro, Circleville, Canal Winchester and Barnesville.
