Sheriff: Man charged with burglary, assault Wednesday morning

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports that on Jan. 18 at 5:22 a.m., the Highland County sheriff’s office received a call from a residence on Juniper Trail that a male subject had kicked the front door of a residence open and had entered the home brandishing a knife.

According to Barrera, the subject and homeowner got into an altercation, and the knife was taken from the male. The male was escorted out of the residence and then went to the back door of the home and kicked the back door in, gaining entry into the home again. The male picked up a knife from inside the home and got into an altercation with the homeowner again.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the male was standing in the doorway of the home. Deputies took the male subject into custody without incident. The male subject was identified as Richard Hilliard.
Hilliard, 47, was charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault.

According to Barrera, the subject and homeowner got into an altercation, and the knife was taken from the male.
