Sen. Brown to visit PAS Technologies

Following a meeting with approximately 4,000 law enforcement officials from across the U.S. in Cincinnati this morning, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, is scheduled to tour PAS Technologies in Hillsboro at 4 p.m. Monday.

Brown is first scheduled to attend the National Fraternal Order of Police Biennial Conference and Exposition.

PAS is a a global leader in the manufacturing and repair of aviation propulsion components and surface enhancement technologies.

Last year, PAS Technologies in Hillsboro announced a $4 million facilities expansion project that will allow the manufacturing facility to grow with business demand and bring in the potential for future jobs.

In other job-related news, Brown last week urged President Obama to commit $450 million to continue to ramp up cleanup work in Piketon as a part of the administration’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 budget.

In a letter to Obama, Brown urged that Department of Energy funds be committed to help spur the economic growth of Portsmouth and Southern Ohio.

“I urge the administration to commit to cleaning up the Piketon site in order to once again make it an economic engine for Southern Ohio,” Brown said. “The region was among the hardest hit during the economic recession, but accelerating the cleanup at Portsmouth would put people back to work, protect the environment, and allow the land to be redeveloped for future economic growth.”

Brown commended the administration for past commitments that have supported 2,500 Ohio jobs. But with the facility beginning construction next year on an onsite disposal cell for construction debris, new investments will be needed.

That is why Brown stressed the importance of DOE following the local community’s plans so that continued progress can be made. To help facilitate, Brown also called on DOE to set forth a clear plan and timeline for allocating funds to sites which require significant cleanup.
