Scott House open house March 23; fundraising efforts begin on historic building
In January 2013, ownership of the Scott House was transferred from the Hillsboro City Schools to the Highland County Historical Society.
The society now has two buildings, the Highland House Museum on East Main Street and the Scott House on West Main Street.
The Scott House will become a building available for business office space on the second floor with the first floor available for weddings, receptions, and business and group meetings.
The society hopes to have everyone support its efforts in the continued preservation of this historic building and its heritage as a part of the community's history.
An open house will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with the public welcome. Committee and board members will be available to assist in touring the building as well as having refreshments.
"It is the intention of the Highland County Historical Society that the Scott House never be demolished," said Jill Yochum, who is working with the society on the West Main Street building. "We hope that it becomes a viable, integral part of the community and remain one of the historical features of Highland County."

During the time the Hillsboro City Schools owned the building, a major communitywide restoration campaign was instrumental in restorations. The major donors of that restoration continue to be recognized today with each room known by their donor.
A plaque hangs at the entry of each room with the donors name. Those donors include: Vernon B. Fairley, Jim and Susan Gibbs, Fifth Third Bank, Liberty Savings (now First Financial Bank), Weastec, Dr. David and Kay Ayres, and Merchants National Bank.
"We've had contractors go through the building to address items that need to be done to preserve the integrity of the building as well as updates to make it more inviting and conducive to renting space for events and meetings," Yochum said.
"These will all be displayed in each room with the cost for each project. We are hoping visitors will be encouraged to make donations for these projects. Our total goal is to raise $30,000 through a series of fundraising events this year.
