Rep. Becker introduces Medicaid reform legislation

State Representative John Becker (R-Clermont County) has introduced a Medicaid reform bill in the Ohio House.

Income maximums for Medicaid eligibility in Ohio have been adjusted in both directions over the years.

The current eligibility limits are well above federal minimums in three areas.

"In order to align Ohio’s Medicaid Program with the federal minimum requirements, we can, (1) reduce parents from 90 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) to 34 percent; (2) reduce pregnant women (mothers) from 200 percent of FPL to 133 percent; and (3) eliminate Medicaid Buy-in for Workers with Disabilities (MBIWD) which is currently at 250 percent of FPL," Becker said.

“House Bill 255 is intended to be part of the Medicaid expansion debate,” Becker said. “Elements of it could be part of compromise legislation.”

Collectively, these reductions will save taxpayers approximately $1.5 billion per year, he said.
