Peterson honors Bishop Flaget student for national award

On Wednesday, State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) presented a resolution to Avery Brown, a sixth grader from Bishop Flaget in Chillicothe.
Brown was recently honored by the National Catholic Educational Association with its 2017 Youth Virtues, Valor and Vision Award for work she has done to benefit the Southern Ohio Survivors organization in Ross County.
"It is my honor to recognize Avery for her hard work and vision, helping those who are experiencing difficult times," Peterson said. "We can all learn something from her generosity and ambition, and I look forward to hearing about the great things she will continue to do in the years ahead."

Brown began the Pink Power Pumpkin Project, painting and selling pumpkins to members of the community. In three years, she has been able to donate over $5,000 to organizations dedicated to helping those with cancer, diabetes and other terminal illnesses and their families.
More than 150 students from Catholic schools across the country were nominated by teachers, counselors, principals, coaches and pastors. Of that number, only 10 were selected for the award.
