OVI sobriety checkpoint planned in Clermont County tomorrow

BATAVIA – The Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that troopers will conduct an OVI checkpoint in Clermont County tomorrow evening. The exact location of the checkpoint will be announced tomorrow morning, August 22nd.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

So far this year, there have been 5,727 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways. Of those crashes, 226 people were killed and 2373 people were injured.

“Troopers have made 9,782 OVI arrests this year to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to deter impaired driving and proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,” said Lieutenant Shannon Utter, Batavia Post commander.

If you see an impaired or reckless driver on the road, call #677 to be connected directly to the nearest Ohio State Highway Patrol post. Your call could save a life.

The Patrol is seeking driven, service-minded individuals who are ready to make a difference and removed impaired drivers from Ohio roadways. Those interested can text “joinOSHP” to (614) 654-OSHP.

The Patrol also offers a  ride-along program and those interested are encouraged to contact their local OSHP post  to schedule a ride-along with a trooper during their shift.
