OSHP drug arrests and seizures continue to rise

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers’ drug arrests and seizures continue to climb so far in 2012.

Troopers have seized 27,875 grams of heroin in the first six months of 2012 – a 327 percent increase over the same period last year. In addition, marijuana seizures by gram are up 107 percent with overall drug arrests across the state up 30 percent.

Drug interdiction efforts are essential to improving the quality of life in Ohio. Dangerous drugs are being trafficked into Ohio, broken down into smaller quantities and are making their way into Ohio communities.

“Our troopers are out on the roadways everyday looking beyond the traffic stop – they are detecting and removing the criminal element from our communities” said Colonel John Born, Patrol superintendent.

“But we can’t do this on our own; the public is encouraged to call #677 to report drug activity.”
