Ohio VFW names Senator Joe Uecker 'Legislator of the Year'

Senator Joseph Uecker (R–Miami Township) was recently presented the Legislator of the Year award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Ohio.

On hand to present the award were many leaders and members of the state chapter.

"It can never be overstated that 'freedom is not free,' but instead comes at a price too great that it could never be properly repaid," said Uecker. "I want to do all I can in my role as a legislator to see that the sacrifice of our veterans and their families is never forgotten and that all Ohioans know how great a privilege it is to be a citizen of this great nation."

The proud parent of service members, Senator Uecker has two sons, a daughter, and a daughter-in-law who are currently serving their country as officers in the United States Air Force.

“Veterans are grateful for Senator Uecker’s commitment to our issues,” said VFW of Ohio Charities Executive Director Bill Seagraves in a statement on the award. "His work in the legislature and his family’s service in the armed forces are greatly appreciated by the VFW and all veterans groups.”

The organization specifically extended gratitude to Senator Uecker for his sponsorship of an amendment to the state budget which increased the veterans hall tax exemption cap from $10,000 to $36,000, a move that will help VFW halls retain more of their funds.

Senator Joe Uecker serves the 14th Ohio Senate District, which encompasses Adams, Brown, Clermont, and Scioto counties as well as part of Lawrence County. He is the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on State Government Oversight and Reform. To learn more, go to www.OhioSenate.gov/Uecker
