Ohio Third Frontier supports technology startup success
The Ohio Third Frontier Commission recently approved $250,000 in grants to support entrepreneurs in Ohio bringing new technology and innovative products to the workforce. Two companies, Digital Story Therapies, Inc. and Rescue Ventilation Solutions, LLC, will receive grant funding.
The Ohio Third Frontier Technology Validation and Start-up Fund provides grants to Ohio companies aiming to license institution-owned technologies to accelerate commercialization through activities such as market research and further prototyping. This helps companies raise funds and get the licensed technology to the marketplace faster.
“Today’s awards demonstrate our commitment to Ohio’s entrepreneurs and their mission to bring groundbreaking solutions and technologies to the market,” said Governor DeWine. “Each and every product we support has the potential to make a huge impact in the lives of Ohioans and people across the world.”
“These technologies are revolutionizing their industries, showcasing the power of innovation, and enhancing lives,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development and chair of the Ohio Third Frontier Commission. “This initiative not only accelerates commercialization but ensures that Ohio remains a hub for technological progress and entrepreneurial excellence.”
Technology Validation and Start-up Awards
Digital Story Therapies, Inc., located in the city of Columbus (Franklin County), was awarded $100,000 to commercialize an app that uses speech therapy methods to help hearing-impaired children by boosting their speech and reading comprehension skills. Personalized lessons are designed for each child. The company plans to license this technology from the Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Rescue Ventilation Solutions, LLC, located in the city of Cincinnati (Hamilton County), was awarded $150,000 to commercialize a device called SPIRITUS. SPIRITUS aids patients that are severely injured or sick by helping them breathe via bag-valve masks (BVM). The company plans to focus on emergency medical services agencies and hospitals. The technology was developed by the University of Cincinnati and the company intends to license the technology from the University of Cincinnati.
