Ohio State Bar Association honors area attorneys for longtime service

During his four years as the District 8 Representative to the OSBA Board of Governors, Judge Howard “Hank” Harcha has had the opportunity to recognize a number of area attorneys for their longtime service to the profession.
On Thursday, Nov. 9 – his last annual meeting as Governor – he had the distinct honor of recognizing his own father, Howard H. Harcha, Jr. of Portsmouth, for dedicating 65 years to the practice of law. He also recognized Chesapeake attorney Richard B. Meyers, who has practiced law for more than 50 years.

During the meeting, which was held at the Holiday Inn in Portsmouth, Derick Fisher of Ironton was elected to succeed Harcha on the OSBA governing board for a three-year term starting in July of 2018, and Richard Clagg of Wellston was elected to a two-year term on the OSBA’s policy-making Council of Delegates, also starting in July of 2018.
About the Honorees:
Howard H. Harcha Jr. resides in Portsmouth and is currently retired. Prior to this, Harcha served as the assistant prosecutor in Scioto County. He has also been the President of the Scioto County Bar Association, a member of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Board of Governors and a member of Community Legal Aid Services’ Member Advisory Board. Harcha earned his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He has received a Pro Bono Award from Community Legal Aid Services for his volunteer work in the community. Harcha credits the Ohio State Bar Association for providing him with lifelong friendships in the legal industry and urges young lawyers to join the organization.
Richard B. Meyers resides in Chesapeake and practices with Meyers, Neville and Baker. Prior to this, he served as the prosecuting attorney in Lawrence County and spent 25 years teaching law enforcement as a professor at Ohio University Southern. Meyers received his B.S. from Miami University and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He is a member of the Chesapeake Community Center Board and the Lions Club.
