Man arrested for drug possession

On Wednesday, March 27 at approximately 4:05 p.m., the Hillsboro Police Department received a call from a customer that reported possible illegal drug activity in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. The caller gave a description of the vehicle and people involved. The Hillsboro Police dispatcher advised officers on patrol.

Officers arrived on scene and gathered more information that led them to conduct an investigation from the information that was given by the concerned citizen. A male that was leaning into the vehicle at the the time of the Hillsboro Police arriving was detained, along with two occupants inside the parked motor vehicle.

During the investigation in the parking lot of the business, it was found that the male standing outside of the vehicle was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The male was arrested, and the suspected drugs field tested positive for methamphetamine and will be sent to the state crime lab for further analysis. The vehicle was searched, and other items were located and seized by Hillsboro Police officers. This incident is still under investigation, and additional charges may be filed in the future on the occupants of the vehicle after review by the Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins.

Gregory M. Grooms, 32, of Hillsboro was arrested for possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree. He will be arraigned before Judge David McKenna in the Hillsboro Municipal Court on Thursday, March 27.
