Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter to host Wilkin Alumni Memorial Scholarship Tournament

The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter will be hosting the annual Greg Wilkin Memorial Scholarship Basketball Tournament on Dec. 26-27 at the Lynchburg-Clay High School gymnasium.
The Lynchburg-Clay Young Farmers originally created this tournament and the FFA Chapter awards scholarships to the graduating seniors that meet the guidelines set forth by the Lynchburg-Clay Agriculture Education Department.
The Alumni Tournament is held during each Christmas holiday and is the main source of income for the scholarship. Donations are also received from family, friends, and others interested in supporting this worthy cause. Greg Wilkin was lost in a farming accident. He was a graduate of the Lynchburg-Clay Schools and attended Wilmington College where he was majoring in Agriculture. He was also involved in the family farm operation. Greg had a great love for farming.
Players must have graduated from Lynchburg-Clay, Buford or Lynchburg High School.?All players must play with their respective graduating class as scheduled on the official tournament bracket. There will be no “grandfathering.” No player will be permitted to play on more than one team unless a situation arises as in rule #4. No exceptions.
If a team has fewer than five players, the committee will group that team with another class immediately adjacent to it for next year’s tournament.
A team must begin the game with at least five players or the game will be forfeited. A grace period of 15 minutes will be granted to assemble the team before the forfeit is declared. If a player from another team wishes to play for the forfeiting team to allow the game to be played that can happen, but the game will be still be a forfeit and just played for fun.?
Official high school rules will be used and enforced including fouls, technical fouls, etc.?The left side of the bracket will be the fast-break division. The right side will be the slow- break division. Both teams have to agree on the game to be fast break if it is scheduled to be a slow break game.
“Slow-break” rules are as follows: no teams can fast break after a defensive rebound or made shot by the opposing team. Only on a steal/block can a team run the fast break.
The final two minutes of each half will be played with fast break rules, regardless.?
All adult referees will be given certificates based upon how many games they officiate. All referees are volunteers. Arguments with referees or abusive behavior by players or spectators will not be tolerated.
The tournament committee, consisting of Beverly Wilkin and Stacie Rhonemus, has the right to eject any player from the tournament for one or both nights depending on the incident. ?Team listed first on the bracket wears white. Other wears black or dark color, excluding gray.
Two, 20-minute halves will be played with a 10-minute warmup. There will be a five-minute halftime. The clock will stop during the last two minutes of each half. Teams will be co-ed.
