Jeffersonville man sentenced in Leesburg drive-by shooting case

A Jeffersonville man pleaded guilty to improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or school zone during a Highland County Common Pleas Court hearing Friday.
As previously reported in The Highland County Press, Drew Harrop, 18, of Jeffersonville, and two juveniles were charged with the second-degree felony following a drive-by shooting incident in Leesburg on Feb. 17.

Harrop was sentenced Friday to a definite determinate term of three years, with 77 days of jail time credit.
According to the complaint filed in Juvenile Court, on or about Feb. 17, law enforcement received a call regarding a drive-by shooting in the Village of Leesburg. Law enforcement responded to a home on Brown Street and to the area where the suspected vehicle was last seen heading. Two of the victims located and stopped the vehicle and notified authorities.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found the suspected vehicle stuck in a ditch. Multiple units responded to the area. The driver and two passengers were removed from the vehicle and detained.
Upon further investigation, the vehicle was searched and a holster was located on the floor of the driver’s side. The driver’s belt was undone and partially removed. In a search near the vehicle, a gun was located approximately 10 feet away on the ground.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle in the alley next to the home on Brown Street and saw shots being fired from the vehicle. Approximately six shots were fired. Two vehicles sustained damage, and at least one bullet entered a residence.
Harrop was indicted by a Highland County Grand Jury April 3 and was also charged with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.
