Hillsboro man sentenced on meth trafficking charge

A Hillsboro man indicted over a year ago was recently sentenced to prison on a meth trafficking charge.

Johnathan Cumberland, 43, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in February 2022 on one count of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, both third-degree felonies.

Court records show Cumberland pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge March 9, 2023, with the possession charge dismissed.

According to a bill of particulars, it is alleged that in April 2021, Cumberland sold $220 worth of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Hillsboro. The substance later tested positive as 3.5825 grams of methamphetamine, with bulk amount being three grams.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Cumberland to a definite determinate term of 12 months in prison, with jail time credit of 89 days. During the sentencing hearing March 8, Coss also ordered Cumberland to pay restitution and court costs, according to court records.
